About

About Dr Umesh Gupta

Dr Gupta is a certified General Surgeon and a Fellow of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS). He completed a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) and specialist surgical training from the highly prestigious Delhi University in India. He further augmented his surgical skills with training in Laparoscopic and Vascular surgery in Chicago, USA. This was followed by three decades of independent surgical practice as well as senior healthcare executive positions in India, USA, Papua New Guinea and Australia. A further period of training in surgical practice in Australia culminated in his recognition and admission as a Fellow of the highly prestigious Royal Australasian College of Surgeons.

Dr Gupta continues to have special interests in the care of the diabetic foot, complex hernia repairs, vascular access surgery, varicose veins and all other areas of General Surgery. He is a certified endoscopist for both gastroscopy and colonoscopy.

Dr Gupta is pleased to provide a comprehensive General Surgery service to the Cranbourne, Clyde, Mornington Peninsula, South Gippsland and Echuca communities, and is committed to offering timely treatment to all patients, private or public.

Delhi University, with a Distinction in Surgery. Performed the first laparoscopic hernia repair in Delhi in 1996.

General & Vascular Surgery Training

Advanced training in Chicago, USA, including 4th-generation IVC filters and complex aortic aneurysm repair with intestinal and renal artery re-implantation.

Health System Leadership

Designed India’s first national hospital accreditation system, led Port Moresby General Hospital to major gains in mortality outcomes and patient satisfaction, and guided the first Indian hospital to be accredited by the American accreditation agency.

Surgical Practice & Consulting

Now consulting and operating across Victoria and Western Australia, alongside board governance work and mentoring future health leaders.

Beyond the operating theatre

An avid researcher, invited faculty, and licensed pilot.

I am an avid researcher and innovator with more than 25 peer-reviewed publications, several patents for innovations in medical design, and regular invitations as faculty at national and international conferences.

Away from clinical practice, I hold a pilot’s licence after training at the Latrobe Valley Aerodrome, and can usually be found there on weekends.
